A six-year-old girl, who was down with severe fever for the past few days, died on Wednesday.The girl, who was initially treated in a primary health centre, was taken to an alternative medicine practitioner after which she developed complications and died.
Police identified the deceased as Varshini, daughter of Gopalakrishnan, 40, of Saravana Nagar near Sivanmalai in Kangeyam. “She developed fever on Sunday. She was taken to the primary health centre at Savadipalayam on Monday. Doctors prescribed medicines and asked the parents to bring her again if fever failed to subside after three days,” a police officer said.
On Wednesday, the parents took her to a traditional medicine practitioner in their native village near Chennimalai. However, the girl started developing complications and was incessantly vomiting. As her condition worsened, she was rushed to a private hospital in Chennimalai, where doctors pronounced her brought dead.
Government health officials in Tirupur said they were not sure if it was dengue since the girl was not subjected to a clinical test.A medical team has been sent to her village to screen all the inhabitants with symptoms of fever.
