Chennai, Oct. 10:
Chinese President Xi Jinping, will arrive at Chennai on a two-day official visit on October 11 afternoon by a special flight. Xi’s special aircraft will land at Chennai at 1.30 pm tomorrow at the airport. Prime Minister Modi will also arrive on the same day.
The Chinese President will be extended a ceremonial and traditional welcome in quintessential Tamil style by playing nadaswaram and thavil. A rousing reception will be accorded to Xi Jinping on his arrival.
After his arrival at the airport here, he will straight drive to a luxurious five-star hotel, a few kms away from the Airport, for lunch and will take a helicopter to reach Mamallapuram. From the airport, Modi will travel by air till Thiruvidanthai, 20 km away from Mamallapuram. He will be staying at a top resort in Covelong.
Both Modi and the Chinese President will meet at Mamallapuram on October 12. Xi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks at the expansive and luxurious resort owned by the Taj Group in Kovalam on October 12. Modi will welcome Xi at Arjuna’s Penance, part of the Group of Monuments declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO and take a stroll together.
The two leaders would visit three other monuments – Shore Temple, Five Rathas and Krishna’s Butterball – the same evening. Modi will host a private dinner in honour of Xi on October 11 evening following which the two leaders would hold informal summit the next morning.
Tamil Nadu’s folk arts like karagattam, oyilattam and thappattam will be performed at the airport after the arrival of Xi Jinping who will be received with the traditional nadaswaram and melam. Kerala’s chenda melam, Kovai drums and north India’s popular Nashik Dhol will be played.
Arrangements have been made at the Meenambakkam airport where around 7000 persons will gather at the airport to give the Chinese President a grand reception on his arrival. Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy today visited the airport to review the arrangements for the reception of the Chinese President.
Vijay Keshav Gokhale, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, also visited Mamallapuram along with a team of central government officials to review the security arrangements at monuments like Arjun penance and butter ball. Reception to Xi Jinping will be accorded at 35 places and the entire route up to Mamallapuram is dotted with arches to welcome the Chinese President.
Folk arts like karagattam, pulivesham, oyilattam and thappattam will be staged at various places on his way to Mamallapuram in order to apprise Jinping of Tamil Nadu’s rich culture and tradition. All the monuments and the entrance to Mamallapuram have been decorated with arches.
Two huge stages with bullet proof arrangements are being erected at the shore temple for the VVIPs to watch cultural and dance programmes. On October 12, Xi Jinping will go to Kovalam where Modi will be staying to meet him. Both the leaders will sign Memorandum of Understanding on various subjects. After that Modi will host a feast to the Chinese President.
On Saturday, all the programmes will come to an end with Xi Jinping leaving for Nepal while Modi will be going back to Delhi. The meeting of Modi and Xi Jinping at the historic coastal town of Mamallapuram being a historic one, an unprecedented grand reception would be accorded to the Chinese President.
