A 65-year-old man, who was beaten up by his son, died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Monday.Police said that Krishnan of Murugan Nagar near Saravanampatty had an altercation with his son Kumaravel on the night of September 3.
According to police, the altercation took place after Kumaravel, a daily wager, demanded money from his father to buy alcohol. When the latter refused, Kumaravel beat him with a wooden log on his head.
While Krishnan was admitted to CMCH, Kumaravel was arrested by Saravanampatty police for offences under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) 506 (i) (Criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 75 of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 1888.
He was remanded in judicial custody. Police said that Kumaravel’s arrest for offence under Section 302 (punishment for murder) was recorded on Monday following the death of Krishnan.
