Chennai, Aug. 14:
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today flagged off 500 new buses from the Secretariat here. The buses, bought at a total cost of Rs 154 crore, are meant for the Metropolitan Transport Corporation and the State Express Transport Corporation. Of the 500 buses, 235 buses have been allocated for Metropolitan Transport Corporation, say reports.
Of the remaining, 118 buses are meant for the State Express Transport Corporation. The Kumbakonam division gets 25 buses, Madurai division, 14; Coimbatore division, 16; Tirunelveli division, 14; Salem division, 60; and Villupuram division, 18 buses.
The new buses have amenities like sleeper and toilets for the convenience of the travelling public, particularly the differently abled persons. The buses have digital route boards and fire extinguishers. During today’s function at the Secretariat, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam participated.
He was joined by Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, and ministers R B Udayakumar and Thangamani. New Chief Secretary Shanmugam and Transport Commissioner J Radhakrishnan were also present at the gala function.
