Three member robber gang nabbed

The city police on Sunday arrested a gang of robbers who waylaid people and robbed them, striking terror among the residents of Ambattur. The arrested were identified as Nepolian, Murugan and Prakash, all residents of ICF Colony slum clearance board, in Ambattur.

Following a series of complaints from residents on robberies in the area, a special team was formed to nab the culprits. They were caught during a vehicle check on the Maduravoyal- Vanagaram road, on Sunday night. Police frisked the men, who came on a motorbike and found them possessing deadly weapons.

The police seized two machetes and mobile phones from the gang. During questioning, they confessed to committing robberies by waylaid people, mostly couples and senior citizens on a deserted stretch , near the Athipattu graveyard. An officer said the gang targetted people in Ambattur at night. They were arrested and lodged in the Puzhal Central prison.
