Chennai, Jul 12:
President Ram Nath Kovind will visit the Devarajaswamy temple in Kancheepuram on Friday to have darshan of Athi Varadar. Therefore, darshan by members of the public has been cancelled from 1pm to 5 pm. Yesterday, Athi Varadhar was adorned in orange coloured silk attire.
Thousands of devotees stood in serpentine queues to have darshan of Athi Varadhar. Ahead of his visit, 3,500 policemen were deployed as part of the security arrangements. Security was tightened along the President’s routes and at the Raj Bhavan during his stay.
The President is scheduled to reach Chennai at 2.10 p.m. by a special flight on Friday and after landing at the old airport, he will leave for Kancheepuram on a helicopter. He will be there from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and after the darshan he will fly back to the city airport at 5 p.m. and stay in Raj Bhavan.
On Saturday afternoon, he leaves for Renigunta, Andhra Pradesh, by a special flight. Earlier, BJP state secretary Vanathi Srinivasan, PMK’s youth wing leader Dr Anbumani Ramadas, PMK state president GK Mani, former central minister A K Moorthy and actor Mayilsamy had the darshan of Athi Varadhar.
