Robbers who tried to break open the locker of a private sector bank at Annur on the busy Avinashi road took to their heels as the alarm in the bank started ringing.
The burglars gained entry into the bank by breaking open the window grills of the bank. They went inside the strong room and tried to open the lockers. But in the meantime the alarm in the bank started ringing.
On hearing the alarm bell ringing, the burglars fled from the bank premises. On hearing the alarm bell ringing, the police who were on patrol duty, went to the bank and found its windows broken and signs of attempts to break open the lockers.
They informed the bank manager who immediately rushed to the bank. He found that Rs.10 lakhs of cash and jewels valued at Rs.four crore kept in the lockers were safe. Karumathampatti DSP Bhaskaran rushed to the spot and inspected the premises.
Finger print experts accompanied by sniffer dogs also rushed to the bank premises and collected finger prints of the robbers. They also examined the footages from the CCTVs kept on the Avinashi Road and are examining them. A case has been registered and further investigations are going on.
