The city crime branch (CCB) police arrested a 48-year-old man on Wednesday for forging documents and cheating an iron scarp firm of Rs 2.81crore.
R Balasubramaniam of Senthur Garden at Kondayampalayam was arrested based on the complaint of P Rajamanickam,43, of Sri Venkatesh Perumal Nagar at Saravanampatti,owner of SR Steels at Saravanampatti. The firm used to deal in iron scrap. His younger brother Subramani owned another scrap firm, Sri Mathura Traders.
Balasubramaniam was handling the accounts of both the firms and filing the goods and service tax (GST), the complaint said. “He was using the GST accounts and passwords belonging to the brothers He forged GST documents and involved in trading without the knowledge of them and made a loss of Rs 2.81crore to the firms from December 2017 to December 2018.
The brothers came to know about the forgery after they were asked to appear before the GST officials,” a police officer said. Balasubramaniam was booked under sections 406,465, 468, 471, 477 (A) of the Indian Penal Code and remanded in judicial custody.He had invested the money in properties, the officer said. “We are collecting the details of the properties owned by him and his relatives.”
