The Lieutenant Amit Singh Memorial award for the best All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) Centre 2018-19 was presented to the Department of Vegetable Crops, TNAU, Coimbatore at the 37 th.annual meeting of AICRP on vegetable crops at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) , Coimbatore on 22.6.19.
On behalf of TNAU, Dr. L. Pugalendhi, Dean (Horticulture.), TNAU, Coimbatore and Dr. R. Swarnapriya, Professor and Head, Department of vegetable crops and the team members received the award.
The AICRP meeting was jointly organized by the Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR), Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and Department of vegetable crops, TNAU, Coimbatore. The group meeting will continue till June 25.
Dr. K. S. Subramanian, Director of Research, TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address, he stressed the importance of vegetable research in the enhancement of nutrition to people. Dr. Jagdish Singh, Director of IIVR delivered the project remarks and coordinator’s report.
Dr. T. Janakiram, Assistant Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, New Delhi and Dr. R. Rathinam, Former Director of National Research Centre on Oilpalm and Former Executive Director of Asia Pacific Coconut Community gave the felicitation address.
Dr. D.P. Ray, Former Vice Chancellor, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar delivered the special address. The books viz., Good Agricultural Practices in vegetable crops, A glance on vegetable varieties of TNAU and Grafting technology in vegetable crops were released during the meet.
The chief guest of the function, Dr. Kirti Singh, Ex. Chaiman, Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board, New Delhi gave the presidential address. He appreciated the efforts of TNAU Vice Chancellor Dr. N. Kumar and his team for their remarkable contributions in vegetable research. Dr. L. Pugalendhi, Dean (Horticulture.), TNAU, Coimbatore proposed the vote of thanks.
