Nagarkovil, May 24:
Former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan left for Delhi following a call from the BJP high command. The BJP has won a massive mandate in the recently held elections for Lok Sabha with Modi set for taking over as Prime Minister for the second time.
In Tamil Nadu the BJP had formed alliance with the AIADMK and it fielded five of its candidates in five constituencies including Kanyakumari. Radhakrishnan was pitted against Vasanthakumar of Congress and was defeated. Similarly, the remaining four candidates of the BJP were also defeated in the polls. Only Ravindranath Kumar of AIADMK was elected from Theni Lok Sabha constituency.
When the BJP is all set to form government at the centre for the second time, there is none to represent the party from Tamil Nadu. Therefore, there is an expectation among the party cadres that Radhakrishnan may be offered a berth in the new cabinet.
Accordingly, the party high command has invited him to Delhi following which Radhakrishnan left for Delhi. He will attend a meeting of the BJP leaders in Delhi. When late Vajpayee was the prime minister in 1999 Radhakrishnan was a member of the cabinet. In 2014 also he was a minister in Modi’s cabinet.
