With an objective to create awareness among youth about non-communicable diseases, an awareness programme was held recently at the Indian Pentecostal Church in Manakadu. The programme jointly organised by Society for Community Development Project (SCDP) and SSBCK was presided by Pastor Immanuel in the presence of Rev.DevaMeher, Chief Parish Priest, ArcotLutheren Church (ALC).
Naturopath Dr.Jayalakshmi and Jayavelu of IRDS addressed the participants about increase in non-communicable diseases in recent times. The means of spread of non- communicable diseases like cardio vascular diseases, hypertension, obesity, cancer and diabetes and how they do not spread were explained, The causes and means of prevention were taught to the participants.
Importance of personal hygiene with emphasis on handwashing, healthy eating and overall healthy life style were stressed. In a question – answer session, the participants were tested of their understanding about the non-communicable diseases. Those who passed the test were given prizes.
The healthy village pledge was taken by the participants. John Bosco, President, SCDP spoke about the functions of the Salem District Christian Welfare Society for Women constituted under the Department of Backward Class and Minorities Welfare. oPMurugesan, Director, SCDP gave vote of thanks.
