Two people including a minor were arrested for allegedly abetting suicide of a minor girl in the city on Tuesday.
The deceased was a resident of Andipalayam and worked in a knitwear unit in the locality.
A 16-year-old boy who worked in the same unit made a proposal to her to begin a relationship with him, said a police officer. But the 17-year-old girl did not accept the proposal and tried to avoid him.
But the boy brook no refusal and tried to persuade the girl. He also began to visit the house of one Manikandan, a neighbour of the girl. Preliminary investigations revealed that Manikandan also tried to compel her to reciprocate the boy’s feelings for her.
Both Manikandan and the minor boy did not heed to the requests made by the girl to leave her alone who also informed them that the issue had reached the ears of her parents. The girl fell sick on Monday night following which the girl’s parents realised that she had consumed poison. The girl was rushed to a hospital but she failed to respond to treatment and died within two hours, said the officer.
