EVMs develop snags Machines replaced at 384 booths: CEC Sahoo

Electronic voting machines, which developed technical snags, have been replaced at 384 booths according to Chief Electoral Commissioner Satyabrata Sahoo.  Election is being held today for 38 Parliamentary constituencies and by-polls to 18 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

People have been going to the booths with enthusiasm right from early morning and brisk voting was reported. As at 9 am, polling recorded 13.48 per cent. Arani polled the highest (30.62%) while Chennai Central polled the minimum 22.89% followed by Chennai south 23.87% and Chennai north 23.36%, the CEC said.

Faulty EVMs, numbering 384, have been replaced with new ones.  If any fault is reported it could be rectified within 30 minutes, he said adding that people can vote even if they do not have booth slips by producing their voter identity cards.
